Our company, PIVA, partnered with Consumer Packaged Goods manufacturers and distributors based in Latin America with the goal of increasing the efficiency of their supply chain process through our technology solutions. We were an early stage company with a small team so my responsibilities were wide-ranging, but my primary focus was on building and shaping the products we offer our partners. Sold PIVA to a competitor after ~6 months on the ground.

TA to Professor Hector Garcia-Molina for a Freshman Seminar oriented around the intersection of computer science and photography.

Golf Instructor for programs such as the Twin Lakes Junior Golf Program and Twin Lakes Golf School, where students ranged in age from second grade to seniors in high school to men and women in retirement. Also worked as a private swing coach for several students who started in larger programs but sought out one-on-one comprehensive swing analysis training.

During my senior year of high school in small town Wilmot, Wisconsin, my dream school, Stanford, turned down my first application. In response, I decided to take a year off of school. I wanted to learn in a setting outside a classroom through work, internships, and travel. Through generous help from two old family friends in Brisbane, Australia, I spent the majority of the next year working odd jobs, reapplying to schools back in the states, traveling, and doing brief internships for two engineering companies in the Brisbane area. I worked as a bartender, a waiter in a fine dining restaurant, a construction worker, a landscaper, a pool boy; I saved up enough to explore the Australian coast, the Outback, the streets and hills of Hong Kong, and did a solo trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Spending a year out in the world (mostly) on my own was a great learning experience. And at the end of it all, Stanford answered my final question of what to do next by accepting my second application.
