NJEXCEL (New Jersey EXpedited Certification for Educational Leadership) is a non-traditional, nationally recognized program leading to school leader state certification that is also approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. NJEXCEL Model 3 leads to NJ certification for Supervisor, CE for Principal, and Teacher-Leader upon completion of instructional components, including plus field-based experiences and internships, along with a passing score on the state-required test for Principal Certification (School Leader Licensure Assessment/SLLA).

Fellows were trained in Teaching Like a Champion techniques and other approaches grounded in a research-based curriculum, proven to be effective with urban, high-need students. Philadelphia Teaching Fellows operates as part of The New Teacher Project.
