Working as a bartender provided me an opportunity to build on the customer relations skillset I previously established as a server. Upon the completion of training, I learned how to practice mixology through the creation of dozens of classical cocktails in addition to restaurant-specific cocktails and offerings. This position required personal care in both low and high capacities, often managing four to five customers at once. These hectic periods reaching full capacity often resulted in operational problems such as lack of inventory or electronic system failures, where I was able to solve these issues with the help of our team. Over time, I observed the processes behind cost productions and consequential revenue streams for the business, on top of inputting earnings at the end of each shift.

In this role, I was required to navigate and assess which customers to approach, as our business model did not include a traditional designated server for table service. This ultimately improved my observational capabilities and awareness, while I constantly was monitoring the room for potential customers. The plethora of customers enabled me to connect with a diverse group of people in a limited time frame, fine-tuning my intrapersonal relations skills. Over time, I became more experienced with the ever-changing environment and influx of people, solidifying several new and established hospitality traits.

In this position, I oversaw several vendor stands at Florida State University Athletics events, specifically baseball and football games. This included preparation, inventory management, staff assignments, protocol adherence, and live-time performance sales checks. If an operational aspect fell below the standard, I was responsible for getting the respective stand on track, as well as solving any problems that arose during events.

Following the opening, my workplace transitioned behind the front desk, where I managed subscriptions, solidified rapport with members, and maintained the work site through protocol adherence and cleaning/safety standards. Another significant change was my promotion to Communications Manager, as I began business marketing through digital platforms such as social media, remaining responsible for tracking community engagement from internal outreach quotas. In this role, I was able to create an inviting online presence appealing to the community, growing our following from a brand-new account to over 2,000 followers. We had staff and member spotlights to increase the feeling of belonging with patrons, in addition to various informative sources regarding classes, fees, and 1-on-1 training opportunities. Through this, I was able to solidify relationships and help establish Crunch Fitness’s standing within the Cutler Bay community.

As one of the initial employees before the location’s grand opening, I was involved in the development of the company from an empty warehouse to a bustling community fitness center throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequential challenges. The early stages of work consisted heavily of community engagement in South Miami, going business-to-business in hopes of promoting the location. This provided a unique opportunity, where I was able to communicate with various people from different cultures and backgrounds, productively creating partnerships where we were able to promote the club. Connecting with local companies allowed our team to better understand our community in addition to creating a widespread network of advertising exposure.

I began this part-time position at the dance studio where I had danced for the past 13 years, as I had a deep understanding of the studio’s operations behind the scenes. Due to this, I was quickly immersed as the right-hand of the studio’s director and owner. I immediately gained responsibilities such as membership payment processing, member check-in, inventory management, and customer communications. While I later learned how to efficiently assist in planning events/rehearsals and class instruction. Working in this position while continuously dancing as a member of the competition team displayed valuable insight into the different sides of effectively running a business.
