Teaching Fellow
CurrentOver the past 6months, I have had the opportunity to work with Breakthrough Birmingham as a Summer 2022 Teaching Fellow. Over the course of the 8 weeks of this summer, I have the primary contact with Breakthrough Birmingham students, working as a 9th grade writing Teacher during the program and are therefore pivotal in my students’ Breakthrough experience. I was coached by veteran educators, trained and oriented in both culture building, instructional techniques, and behavior management prior to teaching. Not only did I have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on middle school children, but I also gained hands-on leadership and educational training. As a fellow, I explored and worked to address social issues and learn what is means to be a community of diverse individuals working toward common goals as a cohort with my other teaching fellow peers. This summer I gained multiple relationships with scholars, teaching fellows, and staff, as well as the growth in opportunity and networking have been amazing on my future career.
