Everything I do, I am always easily adaptable. I carry this value with me everyday and I believe that this shaped me into the individual I am today and has guided me to all the success I have achieved thus far. I volunteered at Glenbrook Hospital for about two years between summer after sophomore year up until senior year of high school. As an information desk representative, we had to speak to patients and families of patients. Some patients only in for a check-up, and some families are visiting their ill loved one. I never expected how a patient or family member was feeling, but I had to make sure I adapted the way I spoke to how they felt. Our biggest and most important role was to make sure that patients and family members felt empathy no matter what situation they may be in. I used my adaptability to make sure each and everyone who came in felt empathy. Not only was it important to be adaptable, but communication was also an important aspect. This experience helped me demonstrate how my adaptability can make or break someone’s situation. Adaptability can help me in various ways throughout my career at IU. I will continue to use this skill to be better in everything I do and hope that by doing this, I can leave my legacy at IU and everyone around me.
