I am a student studying biology at the University of North Texas. After graduating I intend on going to graduate school to earn a doctorate in marine biology. I don’t have a certain species that I want to study, but I have thought about sharks and orcas. These two animals are my main targets because many people fear them and make them the villain, when in reality they’re not. I have always loved animals and been interested in studying them. At first I thought about being a veterinarian and then decided I would get too attached to other peoples pets. Eventually my interests moved to marine life when I got to snorkel in Florida during the summer one year. It was such an amazing experience and it made me realize what I want my future to be like.I have only worked retail jobs before, including Walmart during my senior year of high school, and I currently work at Bed Bath & Beyond. While these jobs aren’t in the science field, they have taught me plenty of things. I have learned how to work quickly under pressure, patience, problem solving, and how to communicate better. All of these skills can be used anywhere, but especially while doing research.I would love to work somewhere that cares about marine life and conservation just as much as I do. Our oceans and everything that lives within is very important to our earth and it needs to be preserved. I would love to care for and research aquatic life while studying it too. I can put the information from the classroom and apply it to real world experiences.
