The Platform Team builds the core infrastructure that supports Expedia Group. I was presented with an opportunity to join the Finance Business Intelligence Team responsible for developing data pipelines that support headcount forecasting, operating expenses, and executive reporting. I leveraged previous experience to quickly address employee retention issues, implement a framework to decide between competing priorities, and develop/modernize skills on the team to help launch a global finance reporting platform.

The opportunity to drive larger impact opened up as Media Solutions more than tripled in size. I transitioned from tackling the technical challenges of development to the challenge of becoming a manager that I would want to work for. I recruited a team of 8 data engineers, spun up a team of remote engineers, and set the strategy to transition from on-premise traditional databases to cloud hosted big data technologies. Our data infrastructure shifted from SQL Server in the data center to managed services in the cloud: S3, Qubole (Spark), Airflow, and Snowflake.My proudest moment in this role was scoring 100% in the manager relations and teamwork categories of our annual employee satisfaction survey.

Media Solutions sells online advertising products across all Expedia Group brands. I was recruited to join the team as my last consulting engagement came to an end. Due to the start-up nature of the group, I performed the roles of data engineer, BI developer, and solutions architect for the emerging Analytics practice. I focused on showing the value of online advertising through data and visualizations. I built data products to support online advertising from pre-sales to revenue recognition which required a mastery of data across source systems such as Salesforce, DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP), third-party vendors, and Oracle.
