Trish’s teaching career commenced as a secondary school music and history teacher. Her main passion for curriculum and syllabus development continues today. Trish later studied to become a Teacher of the Deaf. Audiology and speech acoustics are special professional interest areas. She has worked as a ToD, Head of Special Education Services (high school), Project Officer and various statewide and regional positions. Trish has also worked in indigenous communities in Far North QLD alongside education and health professionals. New challenges are important to the roles Trish has chosen to work in. Trish has been a long term member of the Australian Association of Teacher of the Deaf and has been on both the state and national committees. Trish has worked on various working parties and reference committees for the Education Department and AATD. Trish’s current role as an Advisory Teacher: DHH requires a strong grasp of both pedagogy and andragogy. The latter being most important if there’s to be positive and effective for building capacity for mainstream teachers and take ups with school leadership teams. Trish’s range of experiences include work in the areas of acquisition of English as a second language for indigenous children with hearing loss, effects of middle ear pathology on hearing, language acquisition (sign & spoken), auditory skill development, early childhood development, development of listening technology and self advocacy.
