I love a hot mess. The more tangled, contentious and complicated the better. Another way of saying this is that I chose a career in healthcare administration. It started with a broken handbrake, a shortage of adult diapers and no one to staff the AIDS clinic overnight. While volunteering at Mercy Center in Bangkok in my 20’s, I saw so much need. But I knew I was not suited to be a front-line clinician. What really compelled me was making sure that the handbrake on the pick-up truck to get patients to hospital got fixed, that the adult AIDS patients had clean, fresh diapers near the end of their life, and that the volunteer nurses who staffed the clinic 365 days a year had someone better qualified than me to watch the clinic overnight. And so that’s what I do - I work to ensure that providers have what they need to provide optimal care.I’m currently on a self-funded journey to explore and curate examples of how micro-innovation is making healthcare better.
