As the Sunday and Monday midday/PM-drive producer, I created an hourly newscast by pulling from reporter pieces, other timely news that could be read on air, and stories provided by the network. I also coordinated with team members to make sure we had the latest and greatest news every hour that was presented in the smartest way possible.

Shortly after joining the WTOP team, I moved from a freelancer to a full-time employee on the evening broadcast. After moving again to PM drive, as an associate producer, I constantly monitored various sources to keep WTOP on top of the latest news. I also reached out to local agencies to gather information and write breaking news stories for the broadcast. In addition to gathering and writing news, I served as quality control for the PM drive broadcast by listening to and editing audio, communicating critical information to other team members, and editing copy for accuracy and smoothness.

During a semester-long project in partnership with The Breeze, I worked with two other editors to manage a staff of 11 SMAD students and produce a 48-page magazine highlighting mental health issues at JMU. We took story pitches, assigned stories and photo/video/graphic projects, wrote and edited articles, copy edited, designed pages and more in order to shed light on an issue we saw as deserving of in-depth coverage.
