I was engaged in an executive-level role for this startup and oversaw a team of three management-level direct reports. I was challenged with building a claim operation from scratch. I successfully sourced claim management database vendors and subsequently adopted JDi as the software solution following vendor evaluation and negotiation. This allowed for the ability to handle claims in house which generated additional revenue. I hired and managed the existing staff, including developing skillsets and knowledge.

AVP of claims for casualty and property surplus lines. I managed claims for several surplus line's products, including surplus property, product recall, general liability self-insured retentions, habitational, construction and environmental impairment liability. I managed a staff of seven and direct handled some of the more complex and/or severe losses, including coverage actions.Highlight.: After my first three months of starting, I reduced reserves by $400k after auditing and then closing claims for a book of environmental impairment liability claims.Managed claims for a new product line, which provided insurance over companies with self-insured retentions. Established standard operating procedures, managed the program, and went on team calls to develop new businesses and partners.

I was recruited to build a claim operation for this new company. I managed accounts ( direct insurance companies) and developing loss runs, making determinations on claim tends that effect profitability. I participated in the final decision on treaty renewals. I reported to underwriters on direct insurer claims. I managed claim payments and reserve levels. I drafted claim guidelines and maintained claim compliance with the UK version of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Solvency II.

Managed outsourced and legacy/run-off claims for the company in areas as diverse as homebuilders risk, aviation, PLLS Legacy (residual value, gap, excess wear & tear and warranty claims), Surplus programs, lawyers professional liability and personal lines auto. On the outsourced side, I centralize and manage PIP claims for Great American business units, manage recovery and subrogation efforts for a number of units, and offer construction defect claims support to Great American business units. CRS also supports Corporate Claims and several business units with claim processing needs. Participate in quality assurance audits of claim operations within other Great American claims departments, MGAs and other subsidiary companies. Responsibilities also include hiring, training and supervising management and claim staff as well as financial reporting.

Manage and develop innovative strategies to resolve complex asbestos, environmental and multi-plaintiff, product liability litigation. I was designated as the corporate, person most knowledgeable witness for asbestos and environmental coverage litigation. Managed, and reported to upper management on claims development and claim trending. Prepare and submit SEC disclosures for Asbestos & Environmental Claims. I managed the run off claims for a book of assumed reinsurance business. Develop and negotiate reinsurance commutations. Develop and implement Sarbanes-Oaxley control procedures. Managed the Environmental Impairment Liability Claim Department. Dutiesinclude hiring, training, performance evaluations, and administration of salary for department staff.Handled claims for various E&O programs and excess workers comp.Managed claims as a third party claims administrator for a risk retention group in Texas and an insurance fund for the State of Kansas. This included yearly rate filings.Constructed monthly reports on claim developments including expense, and reserve adequacy.Served as training coordinator for the company's claim staff.
