Project: Integrating Composite Structures for Flywheel Technology The aim of this study was to first seek the feasibility of a composite flywheel design and if proven feasible, design an optimised composite flywheel along with recommend manufacturing resources and methods. This was carried out by performing dynamic simulations in Autodesk Inventor on several composite flywheel designs. The composite structures were analysed using Ansys Workbench PrePost. The investigation found that the composite flywheel design would yield significant improvements compared to existing designs; however, further investigation is required on bearing and vacuum chamber integration so the full potential of the composite design can be harnessed.
