Building a silicon photonics PDK for optical transceivers

Developed a simulation and optimization suite for fluid dynamic bearings in hard disk drive motors.With a new manufacturing process that gave us incredible flexibility in our micron-scale groove design, we needed new tools that could simulate the entire design space and find an optimal result. I created the full tool, from the algorithms to the UI, in C# and C++, and employed it to design multiple generations of hard drives-- tens of millions of units.Through design with the tool, I was able to discover novel designs for fluid dynamic bearings and author 4 patents in Japan.
