The Artificial Intelligence for Water Forecasting program is 10-week research experience where I have the opportunity to collaborate with UA faculty to research new computational tools for forecasting floods, droughts, and water quality. Specifically, my project is a research role that aims to improve snow-water-equivalent (SWE) estimation accuracy by integrating detailed precipitation and temperature features into an enhanced ML model. I am conducting thorough analysis of AORC precipitation data to optimize model performance. I am developing a method to distinguish liquid and frozen precipitation, enhancing SWE estimation accuracy in the western CONUS.

Collecting rainfall data from the Coweeta Hydrologic Lab sun-basin network and the Duke Great Smokey Mountains Rain Gauge Network. Combining this data with WSR-88D rainfall estimates, streamflow observations, storm reports, NWS flash flood warning polygons and space-based flooding observations.
