My experience as Director of Faculty Management allowed me to blend many of my favorite duties and responsibilities. I worked very closely with faculty at every stage: interviewing/hiring, pre-assignment training/orientation, post-hire training, classroom observations, frequent check-ins, and ongoing communications pertaining to professional development, course offerings, and goodwill messages. For as much as I enjoy teaching students in the classroom, I derive a similar enjoyment in facilitating instructor workshops addressing pertinent concerns such as "Using Technology in the Classroom," "Improving your LMS structure," "Adopting a Conducive Late Work Policy," and many other topics. I also served as the campus's General Education Content Expert, in which capacity I helped keep current and improve curricula for the General Education courses.▪ Significantly improved adjunct faculty retention and overall instructor satisfaction.▪ Developed pertinent training materials and strategic professional development opportunities for faculty.▪ Successfully worked with Registrar and Academic Dean to create conducive course schedules that met the particular needs of our campus, considering criteria such as students' programmatic needs, instructor availability, and classroom and parking lot space.

I gained much experience at Vatterott College through my various roles--from adjunct instructor all the way to Regional Academic Dean. Many of my roles and duties overlapped and were successfully executed in tandem with one another. While earning my B.A. and M.A. degrees, I had the pleasure of working at Barnes & Noble. Since my degrees are in English--Literature, this was an apt position. Moreover, retail experience affords many useful skills that I have carried with me over the years. Most notably, my communication skills and customer service skills were honed at this time. Understanding and addressing each customers' unique needs is an essential function in any business.

In this interesting job, I was responsible for memorizing important plot elements and character traits before performing with other actors in unscripted, interactive murder mysteries, which were written by the proprietor of the Steiger Haus Bed and Breakfast. I also served as breakfast-server and room-cleaner.The skills honed as an improvisational actor have proved useful and beneficial in all subsequent endeavors, both professional and personal. I am trained to think critically, be prepared (though not rely on a rigid prescription of events), use empathy, and work on a team. My subsequent career trajectory in education has made frequent use of these skills. Many of the essential scenarios overlap: teaching is, essentially, performing; teachers must constantly prepare lessons, yet react appropriately when unexpected events occur; teachers must know how to "read" and audience and adjust their performances accordingly; etc.
