We are living through an amazing time in computing. Data is everywhere but businesses struggle to make use of it. Also just as the cloud has revolutonized compute and storage, data processing and analytics is undergoing a movement from on premise to the cloud. AutoML packages have democratized data science to some extent, providing analysts with the capability of creating simple models for a myriad of simple problems. DevOps has also become critical part of any data sciece endeavor, especially in the cloud native environment of most startups. I see a rise in low-tech data intensive applications that lie somewhere between descriptive analytics and real time processing. Also data models themselves require more careful though and planning to prevent bias and to proactively determine possible higher order consequences of using algorithms. Data is beginning to grow up.

I am the team lead for a small group of python developers that support analytics. My workload typically involves working very closely with the data scientists to understand their models, producing technical architecture to turn those models into a product, interacting with functional leads to break the work into sprints, supporting my team of developers, meeting with DevOps and InfoSec to provision and configure infrastructure, and writing some sweet code to round out my day. This is an interesting and fun job and I am very glad to be here.

My job is very exciting. Each client is different and I get to work on a variety of cloud, IoT and Data projects. Originally hired as a .NET architect, real world experience has expanded my cloud expertise from Azure, to GCP and AWS. My projects can be heavy Microsoft or completely Linux based. Although it is not unusual to do a lot of PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel work for meetings, it is equally likely that I am in the trenches getting my hands dirty with code.Every cloud vendor has offerings in the IoT and data science space. These areas are a huge passion of mine. I have been very fortunate to participate in cutting edge IoT projects. My cloud background has proved to be an asset for Edge related technologies. Knowledge of the Hadoop stack on various clouds started my path towards adding value to data science workloads. Fantastic mentors have pushed me to actively participate in the "Quant" track, building my statistics background based upon the engineering groundwork from my earlier formal training. Additionally I am a moderator and frequent presenter in the R and Python based "Code" track.Opportunities for cloud and edge projects are exploding. I learn something new every day!
