Beijing, China

I worked in the Transaction Services team in Beijing carrying out acquisition due diligence engagements. My clients were largely European, US and Australian companies looking to invest in Chinese businesses (usually in a joint venture arrangement). The main sectors I worked in were manufacturing, pharmaceutical and retail. This provided great insights into the differences between Western and Chinese business culture and practices and the challenges of trying to enter a new and foreign market.

I worked with privately owned businesses to provide accounting and tax services. This helped me build the fundamentals in accounting, financial reporting and tax skills.While at University I worked as the part-time accountant for one of PwC's Private Business clients where I gained first hand appreciation of the day-to-day processes and challenges of working in small businesses. In this role I had sole responsibility for processing all invoices and payments, month end processes and management reporting, tax returns and year end financial statements.
