I am responsible for the operational delivery of defence projects nationally within SAGE. The key focus areas of my role include developing a high-performance defence delivery team, ensuring strong financial performance and delivering exceptional outcomes for the customers. In addition to the operational management, I am also responsible for developing, supporting and driving the strategic plan for the defence sector, identifying and qualifying leads, bid management, resource planning, key account management and budget development.The project portfolio includes various major infrastructure projects across Australia including the Northern Territory HV Solar Augmentation project for Intract, Airfield Lighting upgrade projects at various RAAF bases around Australia, Fuel Farm upgrade projects at RAAF Darwin and RAAF Edinburgh, Explosive ordinance facilities in Victoria and JORN upgrades for BAE Systems. My role was the Business Manager – Defence which is an operational manager role acting as the 2IC to the General Manager – Defence. My role as a Senior Project Manager involved in the complete lifecycle of projects from quotation through to closeout. This includes the execution of multiple projects in parallel for a wide range of customers including major defence companies, water treatment companies, major mining companies, large scale infrastructure companies and minor electrical companies.Key projects that I was responsible for included significant Collins Class submarine PLC upgrade projects for ASC, the HV Solar Augmentation project for RAAF Darwin and Robertson Barracks, the RAAF Tindal airfield lighting upgrade project for Fulton Hogan and multiple electrical projects associated with the Integrated Platform Management System for Navantia.Other key defence projects that I have been responsible for include the support facility upgrade for the Integrated Ship Control Management and Monitoring System obsolescence upgrade project, the airfield lighting control system upgrade for Woomera airfield, the electrical panel design and manufacture of several Sonar panels for Ultra Electronics for the Air Warfare Destroyer project, the airfield lighting control system upgrade for RAAF Darwin, electrical and mechanical fitout of Mobile Control & Reporting Centre Deployable Cabins for Daronmont Technologies and the software development and integration of the C-17 Fuel Hydrant system at RAAF Edinburgh for Global Petroleum Services.Principle disciplines included: bid management, contract negotiations, project management, contract/commercial management, financial reporting, schedule management, risk management, customer liaison, leadership, budget management, subcontract management.

Project Manager for the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) Capability and Technology Demonstrator (CTD) Program Office. Jacobs Australia has the contract to provide Project Management Services to the DSTO CTD Program Office for a period of 3 years with extension options.This role involved the overall management on behalf of the Commonwealth of approximately 10 CTD projects throughout the entire project lifecycle from the negotiation phase through to the closure phase. The technology involved in the projects varied considerably and all defence focus areas were represented (air, land and sea). The combined value of the ten projects which I managed was $25M.Principle disciplines included: contract development, contract negotiations, project management (PMBOK), contract/commercial management, financial reporting, schedule management, risk management, customer liaison, leadership, budget management.

Project Manager for the Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Test Bed (ISRTB) project. This project was a $5M project with a contract period of 3 years with an option to extend for another 7 years. The customer was the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO).The project involved the design, integration and flight testing of DSTO supplied equipment into a Raytheon Beech 1900C aircraft. The equipment installed ranged from Electro-Optic sensors to Multi Mode Radar systems. The core project team consisted of one pilot, two structural engineers, one electrical engineer, two draftsmen, and four technicians. There were also several subcontract pilots and engineers.Principle disciplines included: project management (PMBOK), risk management, financial management and reporting, business development, leadership, contract/commercial management, contract negotiations, requirements analysis, budget management, subcontract management, EVMS, customer liaison, schedule management, quote preparation and ROM costings.

Project Manager for the Airborne Research and Development Unit (ARDU) project. This project was a $15M project with a contract period of 5 years with an option to extend for a further 5 years. The customer was the Airborne Research and Development Unit (ARDU) section of the Royal Australian Air Force.The project involved the maintenance and operational support of ARDU’s fleet of aircraft. This ranged from deep level maintenance on the aircraft to personnel support on aircraft deployments. This project also included any manufacturing required to support ARDU and also any external manufacturing work which Raytheon sourced outside of the contract. The Raytheon project team consisted of several senior managers, two team leaders, approximately 40 aircraft maintainers, supply personnel and manufacturing personnel.Principle disciplines included: project management (PMBOK), risk management, HR management, production management, financial management and reporting, business development, leadership, contract/commercial management, contract negotiations, requirements analysis, budget management, customer liaison, schedule management and quote preparation.

Control Account Manager for the Communications Sub-system portion of the Electronic Warfare Training Services (EWTS) project. The Communications Sub-system was a $2M subcontract, which was encompassed within the overarching $10M+ EWTS contract. Involved in a 9 month contract negotiation phase and 12 month design/integration phase. Responsibilities included the everyday management of the Rockwell Collins sub-contract, financial reporting and electrical design. This also included a 3 month posting in Newport News, Virginia, USA.The EWTS project involved the fitment of several Radar and Communications Jamming systems into an airborne platform (Lear 35A) for the Royal Australian Navy. The Communications Sub-system included the integration of Rockwell Collins radios and jammers into the EWTS platform.Principle disciplines included: leadership, contract/commercial management, contract negotiations, requirements analysis, budget management, EVMS, customer liaison, scheduling and electrical engineering.

Member of the ALR-2002A team, a Radar Warning Receiver installed as an ARDU Non-Standard Modification to the F-111 aircraft for Flight Trials and Evaluation. Tasks included design of harness assemblies and installation considering EMI/EMC effects, first point of contact for all manufacture and installation issues into the F-111 prototype aircraft, development of the Electrical Loads analysis and the EMI/EMC testing procedures and other Ground Testing procedures.Member of the F-111 Block C3 IPT which included the integration of the F/RF-111C Interim Electronic Warfare Suite (AIR5391 Phase6 and Phase 7) and integration of the Smiths Industries Voice and Data Recorder (VADR). Tasks involved the design of harness assemblies and installation considering EMI/EMC and determining appropriate connectors and backshells for the harnesses.Block C3 System Safety Engineer which involved investigation and assignment of severity, probability and consequences to any Safety issues that may be present in the above mentioned Block C3. Also involved maintaining a Hazard database and producing a System Safety Report.Member of the Hardware Baseline Options Study team (part of project AIR5398 Stand Off Weapon) studying options for fitting hardware within the current project to support future Stand Off Weapon Capabilities without further hardware modification.Delegated Limited Scope Design Engineering Authority for the F/RF-111C under the Boeing Approved Engineering Organisation.Awarded an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ for my contribution to the ALR-2002A project.
