After 33 years in Fresno, I accepted a job with Tegna's 9NEWS in Denver. I have big shoes to fill, but I am excited for the opportunity to help contribute to the success of 9NEWS and Tegna.

I started as the sole digital producer and eventually built a 16-person team, where I headed the digital news department and acted as webmaster at the NBC/CBS duopoly.I managed hiring, scheduling, workflow, developed best practices, maintained journalistic ethics and integrity, and ran stationwide training seminars to introduce new technologies.As the digital lead, my role included being in charge of our stations’ messaging to the public and our positioning within the surrounding community.During the COVID-19 pandemic, I managed teams both remotely and in-office.

I specialized in breaking news. My job was to listen to multiple police scanners to get asmuch information as possible. Once I found a breaking story – like a fire or shooting – my job is to get to the scene and begin interviewing, taking photos and video. The job taught me how to talk to the police and be a backpack journalist. I was recognized for my breaking news coverage of a jailhouse shooting in 2016. Additionally, I was the newspaper’s backup education reporter, and I covered local politics in the 2016 election.

I managed the beer department and acted as the closing manager at night.

I ran a newsroom of 40+ students. Half of the staff was dedicated to print and the other half to our website. I coordinated 10 editors and their reporters to make sure we produced content at the standards of our publication. I ran 5 office meetings per week with various departments and setup 6-8 workshops per week for students to learn different journalism-related topics.

Signing was one of many departments in which I worked while at Target. I started as overnight flow unloading trucks. Eventually, I moved to the outs team, then to food, electronics, entertainment, signing, shoes, and finally worked as a remodel specialist.
