Goal is to draw on 25 years of expertise in locating and sourcing scandium, producing and delivering commercial quantities of final alloys to OEM's, develop recycling paths and supplying final products to directly to end-users.Tri-Kor Alloys: Manufacturing of advanced alloys.Leeds Specialty Alloys: Primary focus is the development, manufacturing and sales of novel additives to flux formulations that enhance Magnesium removal and facilitate sodium free blends for secondary aluminum smelters at a much lower cost versus historical methods. Sales and Marketing of cryolite, aluminum fluoride and sodium tetrafluoride; responsible for developing manufacturing paths for novel chemical formulations and associated intellectual property.

Managed innovative materials and process programs for Navy and DoD applications, including: 1) Titanium Exhaust Structure - Conducted alloy design trade-offs, coordinated design work and worked with fabricators to deliver a full titanium exhaust section for testing; novel material/design solution will save 22,000 pounds on the Littoral Combat Ship. 2) Lightweight Howitzer Program - Worked with the Army/Marine Corps Joint Program office to develop cost savings for the titanium-intensive lightweight howitzer. Innovative manufacturing paths included flow-forming of tubing and the conversion of the spade and cradle from multi-part, welded components to net shape investment castings. The program was successful in saving $40 million by implementing the aforementioned approaches.3) Advanced Combatant Materials - Program objective was to innovate novel materials and processes to affect enhanced performance and reduced cost for U.S. Navy ships. Innovations included novel corrosion resistant aluminum alloys for marine applications, heat treatments to reduce corrosion of Navy ships, elimination of costly test practices for piping in Navy ships, friction stir welding of steel and development of production paths for novel high strength steel.4) General - Developed production paths for aluminum armor alloys and aluminum lithium alloys, managed an effort to introduce titanium into aircraft carriers and provided oversight on a program to implement composite piping into Navy ships. Reviewed many proposed government R&D programs and advised against wasteful efforts.

Alloy was then utilized as the primary material on the Space Shuttle's External Tank, enabling NASA to reduce the weight of the Shuttle by 8000 pounds to enable multiple launches in the fabrication of the Space Station. Lockheed Martin was awarded a $350M contract to build 20 External Tanks constructed from Alloy 2195, each tank capable of holding 500,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen. More valuable contract awards ensued. Efforts also yielded a patent award specific to cryogenic tanks, 25 publications and numerous invention awards. Other work in ion implantation, tribology, solders and associated publications resulted in the award of Lockheed Martin's highest honor, the Jefferson Cup, and Corporate Author of the Year.
