Robert D. Scott has held development leadership roles during four comprehensive, billion-dollar-plus campaigns. He successfully directed MIT through the planning and early nucleus phases of its $6B Campaign for a Better World, engaging lead volunteers and directing the effort to raise more than $1.5B in the first half of the quiet phase. As MIT’s Executive Director of Development he realigned the major gift and foundation efforts and transformed fundraising, overseeing growth of more than $200M/year in receipts. He also led, from launch to successful completion, the five-year Campaign for Students, which exceeded its goal with $578M in targeted receipts. Before joining MIT in 2002, Scott developed the business model and supporting structure that enabled New York University to integrate its professional school fundraising efforts, complete its first billion-dollar campaign, and build a global development capacity. A thirty-year fundraising veteran, he began his career at Cornell University, where he and a small team raised $200M for scholarships and graduate fellowships and built a stewardship program emulated throughout the country. A frequent speaker at CASE and AFP, Scott served as board president of APRA, founded the prospect data modeling and analytics symposium, and co-founded the Advancement Invitational Charette.
