About Trevor Steele

I’m a Los Angeles based engineer, CAD designer, and fabricator with a passion for designing and manufacturing quality products in the USA. I’ve proven myself to be an intuitive, hands-on, and adaptable team player in a variety of industries and challenging, fast paced environments. I’m experienced in the design of machined and 3D-printed components using advanced alloys, in addition to carbon fiber. The highlight of my experience is four years designing auto racing and performance products for Honda Racing Corporation HRC US (formerly HPD/ Acura Motorsports), where I helped to design and develop the all new 2.4L twin turbo V6 used in the Acura ARX-06. My contributions include the race spec carbon fiber ignition coil assemblies and heat shielding for the turbos, exhaust, and hybrid power cables. As someone passionate about internal combustion engines and racing, it was a life goal to be involved in clean-sheet engine design through the full development cycle. Having achieved that very early in my career, I want to challenge myself further by applying what I’ve learned to rocket engines and other exciting propulsion systems for aerospace applications.I enjoy turning ideas and concepts into something tangible, particularly when it involves additive manufacturing and the challenge of coming up with new manufacturing methods to realize the final product. I have a BSME from Cal Poly Pomona—a high ranking, hands-on engineering college in the Western US. I have also worked in the aerospace and security industries while studying full-time. Prior to that I was a self employed graphic designer and multimedia artist, so I have always enjoyed being creative in the work that I do. This background allows me to think outside the box in unique ways, to design a product that satisfies both function and form where applicable, and to clearly present my ideas to others through reports and technical documents.

I work on the engine systems team — a fun, talented, and diverse Integrated Product Team (IPT) dedicated to the successful assembly, test, and delivery of the next-generation Orion Main Engine (OME) for NASA. OME is a hypergolic liquid propellant rocket engine and will power the Orion spacecraft for Artemis Moon missions VII+ after all Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS) engines which have flown on the Space Shuttle are expended. My role as assembly lead is to support and coordinate engineering activities, particularly those concerning aspects of how OME will be assembled, inspected, tested, transported, and installed into the European Service Module (ESM). My additional responsibilities are widespread and include tracking and reporting on procurement and manufacturing status of certain critical OME subcomponents on a weekly basis, authoring and reviewing technical documents and drawings, hosting a weekly engine systems Line of Balance (LOB) style meeting to assign action where needed, and spearheading special tasks. I interact with IPT leads, design, stress, manufacturing, quality, process, systems, component/ project engineers, technicians, program managers, buyers, suppliers, and NASA officials. I have acquired hands-on experience with development OME hardware and heritage Space Shuttle OMS hardware.
