• AZYIP was funded by the National Science Foundation (Grant no. 943360412) and the Russell Sage Foundation (Grant no. 1905-15844).• AZYIP examined how rapidly changing economic, demographic, and political dynamics shape young adults’ political identities and political participation during the months leading up to and following the 2020 U.S. elections and amidst a global pandemic. o AZYIP utilized four waves of interviews with 300 young adults to examine (1) factors that affect young adult’s definition of who is American, (2) shape their sense of national identity and belonging, and (3) motivate them to engage civically and politically to support or challenge narrow conceptualizations of Americanism. This project also includes multiple survey waves with the same participants.• Conducted interviews via Zoom (1-1.5 hr), cleans interviews using SONIX Software, coded interviews using Dedoose, a Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) and analyzed interview data.• Contributed to survey question development and the development of interview guides prior to the distribution of each wave. • Worked to synthesize project findings into final reports and scholarly publications.
