I interned with JPD where I worked with and learned from each of the agency's divisions. Learned the innerworkings of a police department, went on callouts, applied forensic skills, interacted with the community, partook in interagency cooperation on multiple levels, and assisted in the preparation of a nationally recognized event.• Shadowed and learned from personnel in the following departments:➜ Patrol➜ Community Services➜ Traffic➜ Criminal Investigations Division ➜ Special Victims Unit➜ Dispatch & Communications➜ Crime Scene Investigations & Property Management • Learned how to operate law enforcement databases including:➜ National Crime Information Center (NCIC)➜ Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Automated Data Services (CJ LEADS)➜ Police 2 Police (P2P)➜ Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)• Assisted in the set-up and preparation for National Night Out through attending event planning meetings, going to/working with store owners to request bicycle donations to give to children, working with other Officers, and setting up the location for the event. • I went on callouts with Crime Scene Investigations, where I learned how to use different methods to pull fingerprints, how to use alternate light source to locate blood/bodily fluid at active scenes such as houses and vehicles, as well as sorting, processing, and logging evidence using JPD’s evidence programs. • I shadowed Detectives as they investigated their cases, observed how to write search and arrest affidavits as well as court orders, and had the opportunity to interact with witnesses, victims, and suspects, as well as the ability to work with other local and federal agencies in joint investigations.
