Under the leadership of Superintendent Darienne Driver, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) aims to increase student achievement, make operations effective and efficient and engage parents,families and students in this work. In support of these goals Dr. Driver has developed the 8 Big Ideas. Two of which include, Re-envisioning High Schools and Re- envisioning Partnerships. I serve in the Department of Business, Community & Family Partnerships as the Alumni & Student Engagement Associate. In this position I have developed a strategy for the intentional engagement of MPS Alumni in the work being done with MPS. My vision is that MPS Alumni will serve as a powerhouse in decision making for the District. Through events like the MPS Alumni Reunion and the MPS Alumni Summit I gave engineered an MPS Alumni database to connect alumni to the district and to one another. With the debut of the MPS Alumni Hub, an online web site dedicated to MPS alumni, I hope to streamline alumni communication and information sharing. In addition, I serve as the coordinator of the MPS Superintendent's Student Advisory Council (SSAC). The SSAC is comprised of 50 high school student representatives from 25 different high schools throughout MPS. The SSAC uses a capstone model, with curriculum that I developed, to engage a diversity of student voice in order to inform the decisions of MPS administration. Through the successful completion of the capstone project, SSAC students build aptitude as it relates to communication, leadership and civic engagement while earning their service learning project credit towards graduation.
