As a continuation of prior work on technical debt, I was able to design and build the test automation framework used by our engineering organization and to define our coding standards and code review process. Serving as a project lead, I collaborated with Product and Design, Customer Success, and Customer Support to scope, plan, and design our technical solutions before breaking down these solutions into shovel-ready work for my team. In support of this work, I wrote net-new solutions including a sync-management system leveraging Kubernetes Jobs.

Developed high volume data ingestion and storage systems using Java, Spring Boot, GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform. In collaboration with my tech lead we reverse-engineered a legacy system and unearthed critical defects revealing years of customer data corruption. After 43 days of high intensity triaging, debugging, and redesigning, this resulted in being given the freedom to float across the entire product suite to surface, triage, categorize, and prioritize systemic defects and tech debt. Over the following six months, this project pre-empted dozens of severity 0 issues in production and saved the company over $600k annually, resulting in promotion to SE III.

As a software engineer on the Customer Lifecycle team, I worked extensively with AWS, Golang, Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes to maintain existing RESTful microservice architecture while writing and transitioning to net-new services in order to seamlessly migrate to a next-gen architecture. In this role, I had the opportunity to standardize metrics and alerting approaches across services, collaborate with tech leads to define standards and best practices for new services, and re-architect/re-write a data processing worker within our core system to scale horizontally in order to more efficiently process millions of users worth of account data at a time.

As a DevOps intern I worked on an automated virtual machine management system that leveraged ServiceNow integrations, Ansible Tower, vSphere, and Terraform Enterprise. I rapidly became the team’s subject matter expert on Hashicorp’s Terraform Provider plugin framework and was responsible for the architecting, development, testing, and release of an Ansible Tower plugin. This plugin became core to the rest of the architecture and replaced the less versatile and feature rich modules previously available within the Ansible and Terraform community.

My team was responsible for maintaining an existing RESTful microservice architecture while building out and transitioning to a newly designed billing architecture to prepare Twilio for future acquisitions. In my role as intern, I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to lead the effort to standardize how Twilio SendGrid collects metrics from within a golang microservice. We now track usage metrics for over 80,000 customers using Prometheus via the API that I designed and implemented during my short stay. In order to help those who came after me, I also created a new employee onboarding pipeline which included an educational video introduction to SAFe and AGILE processes as well as comprehensive guides for setup and usage of team technologies.

Recommended for this newly created position by members of the music department faculty, I was encouraged to define my responsibilities based on the needs of the studio as I saw them. Based on those needs, I hosted drop-in tutoring sessions for music theory, aural skills, and composition. I administered and graded tests for music department faculty and recorded their projects. I supervised, educated, and assisted students on the use of audio equipment and the recording space. I repaired, organized, took inventory of, and distributed material donations from the community.
