1. Developed a novel model for studying rare-earth doped fiber laser arrays with significant computation advantages over other existing models. Implemented a FORTRAN code using multi-core parallel computing to solve the model by the split-step Fourier method. The model contributes that it clarifies the beam combining mechanism of passive fiber laser arrays.2. Proposed a new structure of fiber laser arrays based on Raman gain. Discovered the importance of Kerr nonlinearities for the formation of phased-locked states.3. Implemented finite difference frequency domain (FDFD) method using MATLAB together with proper setup of perfectly match layers (PML) under local cylindrical coordinate to accurately calculate the bending losses of the curved waveguide structures.

Developed a numerical model for the bend analysis of leakage channel fiber, a strongly guided large-mode-area microstructured fiber designed by IMRA America Inc. to achieve high power coherent fiber laser sources with diffraction-limited beam profiles. The mode solver is based on the script programming (batch mode) of the commercial finite element method (FEM) software of COMSOL Multiphysics.
