• Envisioned & executed the transformation of Materials Project's (MP) decade-old monolithic services to a modern cloud infrastructure:• Used infrastructure-as-code to model, provision, and manage a new networked AWS architecture that meets modern, requirements for high availability, exponential growth and rapid solutions for over 200k users.• Deployed the API Gateway Kong to manage traffic to containerized microservices on AWS Fargate.• Developed a Kong plugin connecting sessions to an OAuth proxy server for passwordless logins.• Achieved end-to-end observability by integrating interactive monitoring via Datadog with MP’s VPC.• Established MPContribs as MP’s first fully cloud-based service accompanied by a major modernization of its API, python client, and UI to achieve stable operations, high uptimes, and massive speed improvements.• Co-authored white paper on MPContribs resulting in +$500k annual funding for MP to become largest core program in MSD and play a central supporting role in data-driven automated research at Berkeley and other DOE labs.• Developed a new modern command line interface to handle MP data operations on HPC integrated with Github issues for status tracking. Successfully organized 11 years (200 TB) of raw MP data transfers to long-term tape archival, and parsed 1M DFT calculations forming the basis of MP’s ETL pipeline.• Leading role in MP data operations with responsibility to meet quantitative congressional milestones for DOE BES.• Doubled the number of citable MP materials by using MPCite to continuously mint DOIs through OSTI. The DOI meta-data made MP materials easily discoverable on Google Dataset Search.• Developed & operated the infrastructure at annual MP workshops with 100+ attendees.
