Tommaso Scquizzato is a doctor, researcher and innovator in the fields of cardiac arrest, resuscitation, and emergency and critical care medicine. He works in the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, Italy, where he leads the cardiac arrest research and innovation activities.Dr. Scquizzato's clinical and research work focuses on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, improvement of the chain of survival for cardiac arrest, refractory cardiac arrest, and extracorporeal life support. He has authored several scientific publications and book chapters, and he has been invited to present at national and international conferences.Currently, Dr. Scquizzato leads various multidisciplinary research and innovation projects with clinicians, researchers, and engineers to develop and study innovative treatments and strategies throughout the entire continuum of care for cardiac arrest. These projects focus on preventing cardiac arrest, early recognition, reducing time to CPR and defibrillation, and providing patient-tailored advanced resuscitation through cutting-edge clinical and translational studies, as well as the development of novel artificial intelligence algorithms, apps, and devices.Dr. Scquizzato is an active member of several international panels and steering committees responsible for developing guidelines and consensus documents for cardiac arrest treatment. He serves on the Advanced Life Support (ALS) Task Force of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), the Basic Life Support (BLS) Science and Education Committee of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), and the 2025 Guidelines Working Groups for BLS, ALS, and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation of the ERC. Additionally, he is on the steering committees for two international consensus statements regarding citizen first responders to cardiac arrest and post-resuscitation care in patients treated with extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
