When I was in High School, I was advised to 'follow my passion' and if possible, make it your career! This is all good and well when you know what your passion is, in my case, this was the worst advice as I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. To remedy this, I took a career quiz to help me identify courses and career paths I could take. All the good paying jobs had something to do with mathematics and physics, so in an effort to not be broke in the future I enrolled in these subjects. To cut the long story short, I hated my years in High School and to make matters worse, I ended up not qualifying for any of the courses I initially thought would guarantee my financial security. In our society, careers and intelligence are measured by our grades in our school and as you can tell I was not a top student. This left me feeling distraught, discouraged and like a failure. I believed that there was nothing left for me. When I got to university as my family do not believe in gap years, as they are seen as a waste of time. I just chose any course, and I thought I would just figure it out as time goes. This is how I found myself studying Public Relations and I grew to love it. I discovered so many skills I did not know I had. I did not know how powerful and broad communication is. Is this my dream, is this my finish line? I think not, I believe however that at the moment and time I am where I am supposed to be.
