2023-present: Creative Innovation data science area lead.I use data, ML, and tech to assist, inform, and inspire the creative experts who produce artwork, videos, and other promotional assets, which are used in our personalization algorithms to aid in discovery. Increased engagement and retention from promotional media optimization and personalization adds value on the order of $100Ms annually. Since 2023, I serve as the Creative Innovation data science area lead.Selected projects:- initiated and ran an ML analysis to discover properties of effective artwork and video suites, including low-level visual properties, higher-level conceptual themes, suite size, and diversity. This project reshaped our creative strategy, adding $42M annualized value.- created outlier detection methods to detect inadvertently harmful assets. Presented work to C-suite.- Initiated and prototyped an in-house AB test / experimentation dashboard which allowed creative partners to test their own hypotheses at scale with statistical rigor. Worked with the engineering team to create a refined internal tool. Creative-partner-driven experimentation adds value on the order of $10M annually, and allows partners to avoid ineffective/inefficient strategies.- created metrics that allow creative partners to evaluate strategies. - ran ROI analyses to determine the appropriate level of investment in asset suites and allocation of fixed promo media budgets- ran AB tests / experiments to optimize multi-armed bandit personalization algorithms I am passionate about mental wellbeing, and co-led the Mental Health Employee Resource Group from 2019-2023.

Led experimentation for the Asia Pacific region, and built internal experimentation tools that were used by teams worldwide to support research at scale.Working with Uber Eats, I collaborated closely with Ops and UX to lead numerous cross-functional studies investigating user motivations, and factors affecting conversion and retention. I also ran analyses and experiments to test a variety of Eats features such as menu / tags optimization, dispatch radii, and health-seeking behavior, among others.I initiated and led an international team of 8 to build an automated restaurant dispatch radius tool, optimizing delivery reliability.

As the 11th team member and first data scientist at 99.co, I was responsible for ETL pipelines, data analysis / business intelligence, experimentation, and implementation of machine learning algorithms to solve business problems.Data Science- Implemented end-to-end recommendation system using user-based collaborative-filtering algorithm, as well as the emailer to send recommendations in a weekly digest.- 3 item-based recommenders for in-page recommendations. During grad school, I studied neural mechanisms of decision making, and how external (e.g. ambient scents) as well as internal (e.g. neurotransmitter levels, personality traits) factors affect our decisions. My thesis project involved applying machine learning to discover the dimensions along which the brain parses odors, how odors affect emotions, and the neural mechanisms by which emotional reactions to odors affect risk preferences.I also investigated how concentrations of the neurotransmitter GABA in various brain regions influence decisions to explore new options versus exploit known, familiar options.My past projects have included investigating how social anxiety and sleep deprivation affect behavior and attention.Outside of research, I design and build web pages and apps, and write flash fiction.
