My Ph.D. thesis work included advancing the mode of action(s) for a library of drug-like small molecules that show efficacy for the treatment of schistosomiasis, a human parasitic disease caused by parasitic worms. The ultimate goal of our work was to develop a single-dose cure that could begin human clinical trials.

A University Associated Research Center (UARC) focused on the development of countermeasures for chemical and biological weapons which sponsors my PhD training through the ADEPT fellowship. Through this fellowship I served a task-lead and conducted various projects in diagnostics, bacteriology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.

I performed an extended rotation in this BSL2 lab focused on Staph. aureus genetics, biofilm structure, and compound screening for novel therapeutic development.

An NIH funded lab studying the obligate intracellular protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. The focus of the lab is in understanding the bradyzoite life stage (a latent stage that infects the brain) and the pursuit of novel anti-toxoplasmosis therapies and vaccines (BSL-2). My master’s thesis work involved the identification of drug-like small molecules with efficacy against T. gondii as well as metabolic toxicity testing in animals and mutagenicity testing.
