I was the first ME hired by Fresh after Fresh’s entry into the hardware space - single handedly built the foundations of theME department – part numbering, drawing templates and notes, SolidWorks PDM, 3D printingand rapid prototyping resources, mentoring of junior engineers- Collaborated with coworkers across multiple disciplinary areas to scope and create successfulproject bids- Work as individual contributor and technical project owner with a multi-disciplinary group ofengineers to deliver quality engineering, user experience and design- Clients include: Philips Oral Healthcare, Synapse, Microsoft, Meta Reality Labs, Universal Parksand Resorts, Amazon Prime Air- Scope of work ranged from one-off robotic air hockey table to automated test fixtures to multi-million dollar robotic work cells for high-volume automated testing.

I single handedly:- Built Glowforge's PLM system (Arena PLM) and electronic ECO routing system from ground up and performed all the data entry on a highly accelerated time scale- Established standardized engineering drawing notes and templates for 2D drawing creation.- Built out Glowforge's air filter test and qualification lab by identifying and procuring the necessary instruments for analysis (GC/MS, data logger, laser particle counter, thermoanemometer)- Built Arduino powered prototypes and test fixtures when engineering resources are scarce to get us into early testing.- Bought the air filter unit from concept sketches through engineering builds at contract manufacturer.- Perform DFM / DFA work that then reduced the build time of the air filter unit by a factor of 2- Design and placed into preproduction the Glowforge air filter cartridge, including but not limited to: mechanical design of injection molded cartridge assembly, design of all assembly fixtures, filter material selection based on chemical analysis.- Provided 3D printing and rapid prototyping services to the company, through the use of my very well equipped garage- Shared knowledge openly with coworkers and provided mentoring / design review and guidance to engineers who are more junior than me in their career.- Contributed to various mechanical design and DFM / DFA efforts on the Glowforge laser cutter.

- Successfully delivered product on two successful, $100,000+ kickstarter campaign.- Delivered the OpenBeam Kickstarter campaign one month ahead of promised schedule.- Creator of the OpenBeam construction system - a desktop-sized extruded aluminum prototyping frame work used by engineers, robotic hobbyists, educators, and companies big and small for inhouse prototyping.- Creator of the OpenBeam Kossel Pro - lead a mutli-disciplinary group of rogue engineers contributing their time after hours in an open source hardware project. Created and managed the supply chain for a 200+ line BOM for the Kossel Pro 3D printer. Issued bi-lingual Chinese/English drawings for part quotation, managed off-shore and on-shore supply chain, designed all injection molded and machined aluminum extrusion parts for the Kossel Pro 3D printer, architected our own 3D printer controller with superior thermal performance.

* Carried out market research and wrote the product requirement specification for Life Technology's OnStage Incubator for the EVOS FL Auto Imaging system: - http://www.invitrogen.com/site/us/en/home/Products-and-Services/Applications/Cell-Analysis/Cellular-Imaging/cell-imaging-systems/the-essence-of-evos-fl-auto.html* Created multiple iterations of incubator prototype single-handed through the use of open source hardware such as the Arduino microprocessor module. Prototype eventually included oxygen down mixing, CO2 concentration control, humidifier, air humidifier, temperature control, bluetooth communications and SD card data logging capability.* Architect-ed final design and configuration of OnStage Incubator, including industrial design of the incubation chamber and control box and sensor selection.* Lead a multi-disciplinary team on executing the product development of the OnStage Incubator. * Co-managed UL and CE compliance testing of product.

* Lead the mechanical design effort for the Life Technologies EVOS FLoid Cell Imaging Station (http://www.invitrogen.com/site/us/en/home/Products-and-Services/Applications/Cell-Analysis/Cellular-Imaging/cell-imaging-systems/FLoid-Cell-Imaging-Station.html).* Vetted manufacturing partners for Advanced Microscopy Group in the fields of rapid prototyping, quick turn machining, injection molding, die casting.* Provided manufacturing support and assisted with UL / CE Compliance Testing.* Supervised engineering drawing translation into Chinese for off-shore suppliers.* Delivered product from initial design to manufacturing floor in record time: started design at the end of February 2011, product was through manufacturing pilot by August of 2011.

• Responsible for product development from initial concept proposal to production release of multiple medical, military and mission critical batteries and chargers. • Conducted mechanical and system-level design reviews, both as presenting engineer and peer review engineer.• Analyzed failed units, proposed corrective action to thermal management, ingress protection and manufacturability issues.• Created document packages defining product requirements and part requirements for suppliers and quality control. • Interfaced with domestic and off-shore suppliers, including on-site collaboration and technical translation with Asian suppliers and contract manufacturers. • Provided manufacturing engineering and DFM/DFA support, including design of assembly fixtures.• Conducted DFMEA for medical devices; provided support for IEC 60601 and UL 1642 product assurance testing.

* Designed a 4-Valve conversion kit for a Harley Davidson TwinCam 88 engine based on CMM reverse engineering of a Harley engine block. * Designed and built automated support equipment for ZCorp’s Spectrum 510 3D Printer* Found novel applications for 3D Printer for rapid tooling & rapid manufacturing applications.* Reversed engineered an obsolete airplane engine part using 3D Laser scanner* Retrofitted a bench top milling machine for 3-Axis CNC controls; built control computer and servo amps from scratch and tuned the motion control algorithms.* Designed and built in 2001 on a shoestring budget a touch screen navigation computer with GPS, DVD & MP3 playback. Built hardware and created custom touch screen interface.

* Lead an engineering team of 3-5 at product architecture level to design and prototype medical and commercial air purification units for various clients and small business innovative research programs, including Office of Naval Research, Office of Army Research, Sharper Image, DESA, General Electric, Gulfstream Aerospace, IKEA, Bosch-Siemens and BMW. * Collaborated with overseas manufacturer to review designs of injection molded plastic and stamped sheet metal parts, including on-site visit for cost reduction and project hand-off.* Worked with research scientists and clients to translate crude laboratory prototypes into viable products. Devised test plans and designed and built automated testing systems for product certification. * Handled negotiations and sourcing for rapid prototype parts, such as cast urethane, SLA and machined nylon components.* Performed various prototyping, machine shop and assembly work, including CNC machining of first article prototype parts.

Volunteers to teach photography classes and organizes group buy of photo equipment and photo shoots.

* Designed & built an advance exercise machine prototype using motion control components. * Prototype could be reprogrammed “on the fly” to simulate different type of exercise workout, from skiing to running to bicycling.
