    Being one of only 12 students selected across the nation, I was very proud to take part in the 2004 Undergraduate Robotics Research Program at the University of Florida. It meant even more when I found out I was the only computer science student in the team! Among all my EE and ME peers, I gained hands-on experience with what I call "physical programming", which means working with hardware, building circuits, and learning first hand how unpredictable and exciting working with physical components can be. We worked without supervision and instructions, so it was my first chance to be in a self-motivated environment outside of school work. Furthermore, we had to manage our own budget, adding to the complexity and challenge for building a robot. I built a ball tracking and obstacle avoidance robot named Moneta.
