About Cliff Johns

With over 150 patents issued beginning in 2004, TubeMaster's inventions hold more patents than all the catalyst-handling contractors in the world in the history of catalyst-handling. Our approach when it comes to material handling is based on the Minimal Energy Loading Principle(tm) or simply the MEL Principle(tm). The MEL Principle(tm) simply puts the least or minimum amount of energy into a catalyst particle in order to move it from where it is stored, say a container, to where you want it to be, say a reactor or tube. With MEL Principle(tm) as our guiding principle our patented technologies avoid things like vibratory fluidization which is known to produce dust and attrition on friable materials such as catalyst. Instead, MEL Principle(tm) devices are much more gentle on the catalyst, reduces or eliminates typical equipment as well as its weight, bulk, complexity of fitting through small man ways and so on. MEL Principle(tm) has led TubeMaster to explain the very properties of catalyst that formerly were considered as undesirable. Things like bridging for example. With MEL Principle(tm) our loading devices work by first understanding bridging differently and then using the normally undesirable property of bridging to our advantage with a net result of faster and better loading. Completely counter-intuitive but that's what inventing is all about and wow, do I have an amazing team. I call them our brain trust. Talk about intellectual capital, this team has a bunch of it in spades! If anyone would like to know more about MEL Principle(tm) please let me know. I would be happy to explain how it can help you get better and faster loading without making dust that you then need to take out.

  • Tubemaster, Inc.
    Founder & President / Ceo
Tubemaster, Inc. Sep 2000 - Present
    Louisville, Ky, Us
Since 2002 TubeMaster has been creating and deploying new and disruptive automated products and services for catalyst-handling in petrochemical plants around the world. Now a branded technology leader, TubeMaster has multiple solutions for every critical path step in multi-tubular reactors including unloading, cleaning, loading and testing. Today, TubeMaster is establishing next-level standards for safety with its automated robots and temporary work structure which remove operators from the safety line-of-fire for extreme hazard tasks. Recently, they re-engineered a common unloading device with no moving parts. It is more than 250% faster than a complex automation device by others, clearly TubeMaster knows what to automate and what to maintain simple while making it the fastest. When a reactor somewhere in the world has catalyst worth many millions of dollars loaded improperly, TubeMaster is increasingly hired to create and implement custom corrective plans. TubeMaster can do so with ease because they have a culture that solves complex problems like these every day. TubeMaster’s next big things are robots as well as material handling and loading devices with no moving parts. Truly, TubeMaster is all about changing the way the world changes catalyst!
