Perhaps Greg is best described as an early millennial as he has held senior positions across at least three sectors including:- Professor, Monash University- Consultant, OECD, Paris- CEO, stockbroker and financial planner, William Noall- CEO, law firm, Maurice Blackburn- Chair, litigation funding, Maurice Blackburn associated companies. From 30 June 2019, Greg has taken up board roles as a non-executive director as well as mentoring CEOs and senior executives. He is currently a non-executive director of AURIN and Thompsons Solicitors LLP, in London as well as advisory board member of Work Healthy Australia and Chair of the Advisory Council of Matthew Steer. From 2017 - 2019 Greg was the Chair of two litigation funding companies, Claims Funding Australia and Claims Funding International, after 12 years as CEO of their parent company Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. A strategic thinker, change agent and values driven leader, Greg grew Maurice Blackburn fourfold, organically, in just over a decade at the helm. This was achieved in the context of both major competitors listing during this period. Maurice Blackburn became Australia’s leading social justice law firm with over 30 offices across Australia and more than 1100 staff, the pre-eminent class actions practice and has litigation funding operations in Australia and overseas. Perhaps the overarching achievement was enhancing the firm’s culture and anchoring the We Fight For Fair brand during a period of sustained growth. Greg began as a junior lawyer at Darvall McCutcheon before joining academia for 13 years, becoming a Professor in the Faculty of Business and Commerce in 1990 and Head of the Banking and Finance Department at Monash University in 1996. This included undertaking research work at the OECD in Paris between 1988 and 1994. He was also appointed to the Prime Minister’s National Information Services Council Legal Working Group in 1994 and was a member of the Victorian Government’s Data Protection Advisory Council in 1996.Greg has also worked in the financial services sector as a senior bank analyst for ANZ McCaughans and then as CEO of the listed stockbrokers and financial planners, William Noall, until it merged with Tolhursts. Post-merger, Greg became an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University and supervised several PhD candidates. He is also the author of several books, many refereed journal articles and several international intergovernmental reports (OECD).Greg speaks French, reads widely (mostly non-fiction now), is a cricket tragic and enjoys writing.

It was law Victorian law firm of the year in 2015 and has won the Australian Commercial Disputes Practice of the Year award in both 2015 and 2016. The firm grew four fold under his leadership while dealing with the listing of two major competitors. Ceo, New South WalesMaurice Blackburn Cashman Aug 2004 - Jun 2005Sydney, AustraliaThis was a pivotal role to integrate the NSW operation as it had not been fully integrated since the merger with Cashman and Partners in 1999. This meant making sure the WIP and expenses were accounted for in the same way as the rest of the firm, that practice areas began to work across state boundaries and that work practices were aligned across the firm. I was appointed national CEO on 1 July the following year. -
Non Executive DirectorMaurice Blackburn Cashman Pty Ltd Jan 2004 - Aug 2004Melbourne, AustraliaIt was an honour to be appointed as the inaugural non-executive director of this firm. However it was only for seven months as I was appointed to lead the NSW practice in August.

CeoWilliam Noall 1999 - 2001William Noall was part of a listed structure and offered both stockbroking and wealth management advice across several states during a period of great volatility in the sector. Greg led its merger with D & D Tolhursts, a larger stockbroker, in 2001. This appointment was on the back of Greg’s work as head of the analysts team in the financial services sector at ANZ McCaughans for two years.

Senior Bank AnalystAnz Securities Incorporated, Research Division Jan 1997 - Dec 1998Melbourne, AustraliaI led the analyst team to produce daily research on listed banks (yes, including my employer, ANZ Bank). This was a challenging yet fascinating role for a former academic lawyer, to set up forecasts for each of the banks and to make recommendations - Buy, Sell, Hold - based on the these forecasts and any changes in the operating environment. It was a colorful time with bank restructuring and mergers (eg WBC and Bank of Melbourne). I travelled to the Middle East, the US and Europe to see global investment managers to advocate my views on the banks. This provided an rare opportunity for insight into the functioning of global capital markets. The ANZ then bought E-trade and closed down its traditional stockbroking operations. -
Non Executive DirectorNatural Resource Systems Corporation Mar 1995 - Jun 1997Melbourne, Victoria, AustraliaThis was a Victorian state- owned enterprise with a single shareholder, the Victorian Treasurer. It provided innovative and value-added products to both government and the private sector on a commercial basis. Henry Bosch AO was the Chair of the Board and Dr Peter Woodgate was CEO. The Board provided a valuable window into the future of how geospatial data and products would become central to so many things we now take for granted. The corporation was shut down as the result of a government restructure.
