The research project is focused on a network-oriented demand response that respects the physical limitations of local grids. An actual 5-house microgrid supplied by a 30kVA transformer has been created at Ardmore, New Zealand to emulate an actual residential network. The system validates the developed appliance models and proposed control algorithms. Research outputs include a unified algorithm to manage flexible loads, electric vehicles and solar PVs. The algorithm functionality has been demonstrated at the microgrid level and in scaled-up network simulations. The system can run autonomously to flatten the aggregated demand at the transformer level and enhance the system load factor. The control algorithm can also enhance the local grid hosting capacity for electric vehicles and solar PVs. Meanwhile, using the concepts of collaborative game theory, the devices best suited to participate in localized demand response were determined.

Developed a self-learning algorithm to create demand profiles of different customers for Distribution Power Flow (DPF) simulations. Created a script for network tracing of served customers per network device, which is used for condition-based risk management.

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a leading research institution managed by the University of California known for excellence in investigating various realms of science and is linked to 12 nobel prizes. Working with the Grid Integration Group and China Electric Power Research Institute, I conducted research on Demand Response and integration of Distributed Energy Resources including solar PV, wind turbines, electric vehicles, and energy storage. I created models and simulations for behaviours of various building loads (e.g. HVAC, lighting, refrigeration, etc.) and developed control algorithms to harness aggregated demand response from flexible devices at the substation level. Cebu Energy Development Corporation is a Power Generation Utility that operates 3 units (100MVA each) of Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal-fired Power Plant. I was involved in:-Maintenance and Troubleshooting of all Electrical Systems and Devices all throughout the plant (i.e. 138kV Substation, Medium and Low Voltage MCC's, Coal Handling System, Water Treatment System, Boiler System, Turbine-Generator System, Flue Gas Treatment System, SCADA system) -Help establish the Preventive Maintenance Plan for all electrical systems-Design and implementation of engineering solutions to improve plant efficiency and reliability-Revision of Equipment Operation Procedures based on maintenance findings-Creation of the electrical emergency procedures during Total Power Outage...

As part of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, I taught two subjects: Computer Science 101 (Introduction to Computer Programming); and Basic Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation. I handled 2 sections for each course which is composed of 40 students under various fields of engineering (i.e. Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electronics, and Electrical Engineering). I conducted lectures combined with appropriate laboratory works for both subjects.
