    The research project is focused on a network-oriented demand response that respects the physical limitations of local grids. An actual 5-house microgrid supplied by a 30kVA transformer has been created at Ardmore, New Zealand to emulate an actual residential network. The system validates the developed appliance models and proposed control algorithms. Research outputs include a unified algorithm to manage flexible loads, electric vehicles and solar PVs. The algorithm functionality has been demonstrated at the microgrid level and in scaled-up network simulations. The system can run autonomously to flatten the aggregated demand at the transformer level and enhance the system load factor. The control algorithm can also enhance the local grid hosting capacity for electric vehicles and solar PVs. Meanwhile, using the concepts of collaborative game theory, the devices best suited to participate in localized demand response were determined.
