As a Family Counselor I work with delinquent youth and their families at a residential placement center. The goal of my job is to strengthen youth and family relationships, facilitate communication between all parties involved, and teach skills to help the youth become successful in the community. To complete my work goal, I collaborate with team members to develop the treatment of youths and to evaluate their progress. I also provide oral and written updates with case workers on each youth’s treatment plans and collectively decide release and aftercare plans.The responsibilities of my job include evaluating intake referrals, maintaining detailed case notes and reports, conducts family home assessments, organize and run treatment team meetings, conduct individual and family counseling, and provide testimony in court hearings.

As a Residential Counselor I provided a structured environment for youths to live in and facilitated work activities, recreation activities, groups meetings, and social skill building activities. I encouraged youths to make positive choices and set realistic goals through individual counseling and behavior management. I kept daily records of the youths behavior and activities, participated in a treatment team, and managed conflicts and crisis situations using non-violent crisis intervention.
