Given a promotion to Mechanical Technician Intermediate, I have continued on with the Ann Arbor Connected Vehicle Test Environment (formerly Safety Pilot Program). Now leading a team of 8 associates, I run the day-to-day operations of the shop and perform training for the new employees in the installation of these innovative connected technologies. I analyze fleet vehicles for instrumentation and make purchase orders for supplies necessary. Maintaining inventory of thousands of wiring harnesses, GPS and Dedicated Short Range Communication antennas, and OBUs is a major aspect of my work. I have also implemented Appointment Plus software to keep a record of participants over multiple projects and Schlage hardware/software to boost security in shop.

For University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, I tested the viability of Dedicated Short Range Communication technologies in a first of its kind connected vehicle environment (known as Safety Pilot Program). Creating wiring harnesses for Vehicle Awareness Devices in participant vehicles, I have expanded my knowledge of electronics. I was given the title of lead technician — handled day-to-day operations when supervisor was out (managed inventory, met with fleet managers, and maintained on board units).
