In my last position at SFX I led a team to create a search API for Beatport's new music streaming service. We built a highly fault-tolerant and scalable solution based on Python 3, Flask, and Elasticsearch. This search API was used by millions of people via web and mobile applications. Average response times were 30ms under peak load. Uncaught exceptions averaged one every two months. Used Ansible and Vagrant to ensure matching development and production environments. Deployments were automated using Terraform in AWS on Ubuntu.I led a large team of developers to create an entirely new version of Beatport's online music store in Python 3 and Flask. Next, I led a team of developers to create a REST API in Clojure for an early version of Beatport's new music streaming service.

I joined Arc90 to help create a scalable REST API server for Reuters under a very aggressive schedule. I was selected because of my expertise in Python, ability to work without supervision, and team leadership skills. This API server used Tornado, Motor, and MongoDB.Arc90 was acquired by SFX in November 2013.

Created initial concept and business plan. Accepted to the inaugural round of Start-Up Chile. Launched Chile’s first online home and apartment rental application service. Established partnerships with professional real estate agents, online rental portals, and credit reporting agencies. Held pitch sessions with prospective investors and negotiated term sheets.Developed the application service in Django with an adaptive HTML5 frontend. Released several Django modules complete with unit tests and code coverage to the open source community.

Provided architectural direction and cohesion across product lines. Implemented product release and customer support programs. Supported the design, development, integration, testing, installation, and flight-testing of a multi-channel airborne Telemetry System utilizing Synthetic Digital Beam-forming for the US Air Force. Converted complex detection and tracking algorithms into a Java server with a custom XML API. Developed advanced, space-based network protocols for cooperative, multi-rover explorations of planets.Provided guidance to create a secure VPN with which NASA researchers could collaborate securely between each of its 11 centers in the continental US to learn the cause of the Columbia space shuttle disaster.

Led a team to create a secure, web-based reverse proxy. Released within twelve months from initial conception. Created associated sales and marketing training programs.Created a Test-to-Development program that mentored junior software developers, and helped to promote them from the QA department into the product development teams. Contributor to Apache web server project. Led the company’s effort to contribute its HTML parser and SOCKS proxy to the open source community.

Led a team that created the first challenge-and-response authentication system for the web which replaced the company’s legacy X9.9-based dial-up product. Created CGI scripts in Perl 5, with additional modules built in C using the Netscape and Apache web server APIs.AssureNet (née Digital Pathways) was acquired by Axent Technologies in January 1997.

Created the company’s first automated test suite in C on embedded DOS for its movie rental system. Worked with support technicians to develop tools in Perl 4 that simplified and improved the reliability of monthly update and maintenance procedures.Developed a brand-new system in C on embedded DOS so that guests could select movies via their hotel room telephone which eliminated expensive and proprietary TV cable boxes.
