Thomas von KusterTom von Kuster has been Business Development Partner for AMEX, Inc., a Minneapolis based export management company. AMEX was a full service international sales and export management company specializing in computer software, network, telecommunications, and medical diagnostic products. Tom was a founding Director of Cymbet, a venture backed solid state battery firm (setting up production in Lubbock). He has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of St. Thomas and University of Minnesota. Tom is a graduate of Princeton University and has an MBA from Carlson School at the University of Minnesota where he completed coursework for a PhD. in Finance. Tom is very active in the angel/venture capital community. He serves as an investor/advisor to several early stage companies (e.g. PacketPower, CimaNanotech, Elite Custom Solutions, Medspira a Mayo Clinic licensee, Infinite-IO, Labels2Learn, and Conservis). In the past several years, companies for which he has served as an early investor/advisor have been venture funded or acquired including Rapid Engines (acquired by SevOne after funding by El Dorado and Vesbridge), Instrumental (acquired by Seagate), LogLogic (funded by Sequoia and TeleSoft and acquired by Tibco), NuSpeed (purchased by Cisco), Conservis acquired by Rabobank AgServices, NT International (purchased by Entegris), Land5 (purchased by Tandberg Data) and SurvivaLink (purchased by Cardiac Science). Companies recruited for Amex by Tom include Code42 funded by Split Rock, Compellent purchased by Dell (2011), Infrared Solutions acquired by Fluke and Shavlik Software purchased by VMWare (2011).
