Primary project focus is building, from scratch, a very large data-collection and analysis solution for a large railroad. Data is collected in real-time from hundreds of locomotives (over cell), stored locally and pushed to a back-office environment hosted in AWS. Primary technologies include MongoDb, InfluxDB, Python, Ansible, ReactJS, RabbitMQ, Kapacitor, Kubernetes, Docker, KVM, and other technologies. My role is both hands-on development and overall architecture of the solution.

Currently acting as a Architect / Developer focused on the following projects:Monolithic Application Refactoring – Architecting and refactoring hundreds of applications to use 12-factor application principles wile moving from on-premise to cloud environments. Applications are written in Java, Python, NodeJS, and ReactJS, Swift. IOS Development. Have developed Several mobile applications, mostly in IOS using native Apple tools. Continuous Integration / Deployment – Building CICD pipelines to help ensure fast delivery of immutable infrastructure for large micro-service architectures. Jenkins, Packer, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform are all part of these pipelines. Full Cloud Targets – All of the above applications are moving to either full cloud or hybrid environments. The target platforms are AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, and Kubernetes / Openshift container platforms. AWS is the most targeted cloud environment. Tools here include Terraform, AWS services such as EC2, SQS, VPC, RDS, S3, etc. Big Data / Databases – Most projects include aspects of Big Data and/or either SQL or no-SQL databases and tools. These include distributed messaging and streaming tools like Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ. Embracing DevOps – The application migrations include organizational changes to a more DevOps focused development culture. Along with these changes, applications have embraced immutable deployments, automation, and configuration tools such as Ansible, Chef, Terraform, and Packer. The concept of ‘Inter-sourcing’ via Git tools is also a focus.

Managed a small team of developers building micro services in Java/Spring and Python on Amazon’s AWS platform. These micro services were deployed within a Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment environment. The development team was part of a larger DevOps group that developed and managed the full CICD pipeline infrastructure. This environment included Jenkins, Kafka, Zookeeper, DynamoDB, SQS, Lambda, SumoLogic, Ansible, and many other frameworks and tools. The micro-services were deployed as immutable AMIs through the standard development, test, stage, and production environments. All 85 micro-services streamed their event and reporting data through a redundant Kafka cluster running within AWS.
