As the Interim Executive Director of Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham (VLB), I oversee the nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and underserved residents of Jefferson County, Alabama. I have been with VLB since August 2019, first as the Director of Programs and Partnerships and Managing Attorney, and then as the Interim Executive Director since August 2023. With over 30 years of experience in both civil and criminal law, I have expertise in a wide range of legal areas, such as family law, contracts, personal injury, construction, probate, mediation, and section 1983 litigation. I also have a background in medical research, having worked in the fields of cancer biology, diabetes research, cardiology research, and embryology. I am passionate about delivering quality legal services to the community, developing and training volunteer attorneys and law firms, and creating partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders. I am certified in basic mediation and domestic relations mediation, and I have strong skills in writing, analysis, research, and advocacy.
