Finding a passion for your future is a hard thing to do. Growing up, I was always a good student, and never had to try too hard to get passing grades. But, I had no idea what I wanted for my future. I worked several odd jobs in my early adult life, I could do just about anything, but still no passion. In an effort to move my life along, I joined the United States Air Force and quickly moved to Italy. It was there that I finally found my passion.My new bride wanted a canopy bed. So like a dutiful husband, I set out to see what we could find on the Italian economy. But, no matter where we looked, we couldn't find that perfect bed. So, I sat down and started to draw. What came out of my pencil was my passion for designing something that was not only functional, but something I knew I could actually build, and something that was aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately I never got the chance to build the bed, but I still have the drawings.Later, at a new duty station, we purchased a home with a plain and poorly landscaped backyard. Again, I sat down with a pencil and redesigned the backyard and created something that was functional and beautiful. This time we actually implemented the plan and the backyard became the highlight of the house when we eventually sold it after the Air Force sent us to a new duty station. But the passion took root and I knew I what I wanted to do with my life.Beds and backyards are not the same as houses and buildings, but the desire to create efficient, functional, and beautiful objects that others can enjoy is at the core of my being. Architecture allows me to impact others with my designs for the better. There is no other future for me, I want this too much now. My passion is found.
