About Milo Mietzner

I create inviting spaces in which people live and work -- indoors and out.Visit website to see image galleries with descriptions of projects.Specialties: - Space Planning - Interior/Exterior Landscapes/waterscapes w/ Japanese, Chinese and modern influences; - Design: interior/exterior architecture, custom furniture/built-ins, sets and props; - Exhibit planning, development, and design; - Project management - 3D modeling using SketchUp Pro; - Furniture and built-in design/build; - and Writing: essay, creative, grant, copy, and presentation. In my former position at Crew Scenic, I helped drive the company's growth as a design/build contracting firm using 3D technology to design residential and commercial spaces, installations, exhibits, furniture, props and sets for photo,TV and film. I enabled Crew Scenic to double its capacity and brought in new clients. In late 2013 I took the initiative to suggest expansion into new markets, including residential/commercial build outs. To prepare, I passed the State of Minnesota's General Contractor Exam and took classes in building technology and 3D modeling. Throughout 2014 I represented Crew Scenic to consult with existing and new clients in my expanding account portfolio. I developed, with a lawyer, the legal documents Crew Scenic now uses. I negotiated contracts with clients, designed and estimated projects, set budgets, specified and purchased materials, and managed labor and sub-contractors. I collaborated as lead designer with art directors, interior designers, and architects to produce designs and environments that exceeded the expectations of clients, such as CoCo/Google for Entrepreneurs and the UMN School of Architecture. As a museum professional, I am also well versed in all phases of exhibit development and design. I have created compelling visitor experiences as an educator/naturalist and by developing and designing exhibits and signage.

Listed skills include Museums, Exhibit Design, Adobe Creative Suite, Interpretive Planning, and 19 others.

I specialize in Asian-inspired gardens, both classically-styled and modern. However, I use those design and philosophical principles, including feng shui, in all my garden compositions to create outdoor rooms for all stages and activities of life. I help clients understand their needs and tastes, but I will also gently push business and homeowners toward a design that allows one to delight in the unexpected or small details. With Twin Dragon Studio, a space will just "feel right." All aspects and features of the landscape relate to each other and to the site--commercial or residential, indoors and out. Every design is unique and based on principles of artistic composition, feng shui, and current best practices and science. The biggest guide, however, is my intimate knowledge and understanding of natural landscapes. The skill lies in recognizing the essence of an inspiring locale; the art lies in representing it's vastness in a space the size of a yard.I especially enjoy the challenge of rehabilitating asian-inspired landscapes and water features, whether they're tired and overgrown, or new but not at all what you were expecting when you did it yourself or hired it out! Background:In June 2010, my Bonsai Master at Five Stone Gardens invited me to learn how to create Japanese gardens, complete with water features, rock work, Japanese-style pruning, and the design philosophies at the heart of Japanese and Chinese garden traditions. Over the entire summer I assisted in all phases from site prep and excavation to final placement of stone, plants, architecture and ornaments. This apprenticeship served as a springboard for me to design and build water and rock features for a handful of enthusiastic clients, including a retainer to rehabilitate and care for a large private Japanese Garden.
