I specialize in Asian-inspired gardens, both classically-styled and modern. However, I use those design and philosophical principles, including feng shui, in all my garden compositions to create outdoor rooms for all stages and activities of life. I help clients understand their needs and tastes, but I will also gently push business and homeowners toward a design that allows one to delight in the unexpected or small details. With Twin Dragon Studio, a space will just "feel right." All aspects and features of the landscape relate to each other and to the site--commercial or residential, indoors and out. Every design is unique and based on principles of artistic composition, feng shui, and current best practices and science. The biggest guide, however, is my intimate knowledge and understanding of natural landscapes. The skill lies in recognizing the essence of an inspiring locale; the art lies in representing it's vastness in a space the size of a yard.I especially enjoy the challenge of rehabilitating asian-inspired landscapes and water features, whether they're tired and overgrown, or new but not at all what you were expecting when you did it yourself or hired it out! Background:In June 2010, my Bonsai Master at Five Stone Gardens invited me to learn how to create Japanese gardens, complete with water features, rock work, Japanese-style pruning, and the design philosophies at the heart of Japanese and Chinese garden traditions. Over the entire summer I assisted in all phases from site prep and excavation to final placement of stone, plants, architecture and ornaments.This apprenticeship served as a springboard for me to design and build water and rock features for a handful of enthusiastic clients, including a retainer to rehabilitate and care for a large private Japanese Garden.

Project Management: - Responsible for meeting with clients to assess needs, from design and surface treatments to budget requirements and timelines. - Established short and longterm goals; managed personnel and budgets; liaised with clients to confirm project goals are being met and to respond to changes. - Successfully completed photo shoot projects lasting a few days to 2 1/2 months with multiple set changes and hundreds of products. - Worked with homeowners and business owners to plan spaces and design custom installations.Designer: - Created 3D CAD models of sets, event spaces, furniture, interiors, landscapes and other products for client presentations and approval - Produced fabrication drawings and layout packets for the build and installation crews. - Continuing education in past and current trends in design, materials and fabrication methods, interior design, and landscape architecture.Scenic Carpenter / Finisher - Built set elements, from simple flats to complex windows and furniture, etc. - Carpentry and joinery, tiling, welding, painting, custom staining and patina applications. - Fine furniture building and design.

Winona County Historical Society – Winona, Minnesota October 2009 – March 2010• Contracted to develop and organize the clients’ rough exhibit ideas for their expansion project, the Laird Norton Addition.• Designed new exhibits with shop drawings with a focus on changeability and retrofitted old cases.Minnesota History Center – St. Paul, Minnesota September 2009 – January 2010• Half-time contract to continue working as a designer on the 1968 Project exhibit team and to assist with an NEH grant proposal. Responsible for developing and rendering models in VectorWorks.

• Designed (with one other grad student) an exhibit layout and environmental graphic design proposal for the early phase of The 1968 Project, which met rave reviews from the Exhibits Department.• Solely produced a 3D model of the gallery using Google Sketch Up.

April 2006 – August 2008 (layoff)• Researched content and wrote copy for new exhibits at three visitor centers and one children’s museum and for a computer kiosk at an arboretum. Visitors have commented favorably on all of them.• Sourced images, audio, video, and artifacts that best complemented exhibit content. Secured permissions and negotiated fees. Photographed objects and landscapes as needed.• Edited digital photographs, maps, and artwork as needed with Adobe Creative Suite. Collaborated with graphic designer to meet exhibit and audience needs.• Managed exhibit plan databases to ensure communication between development, design, and production and between KidZibits and clients. Facilitated meetings with clients.• Wrote exhibit manual for a traveling exhibit. Several venues have described it as the best they’ve used.• Developed and prototyped age-appropriate interactives to foster visitor access and enjoyment.
