Coaching in an online environment means building strong relationships by slightly different pathways and perhaps using more creativity. This role has proven exciting and rewarding in ways that are an extension of my usual face-to-face coaching in schools.

As a part of an online content development team, including writers, editors, and project managers, I am responsible for developing math and science items that are single and multi-coded to align with one or more Common Core State Standards (Next Generation Science Standards in the case of science) between grade 4 and high school. Items are developed and entered into an online platform, with graphics uploaded when applicable.

I provided direct service to teachers and administrators in low-performing districts in an effort to build capacity in schools. My service comes in the form of professional development on best practices, data analysis, implementation and unpacking of the content in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, and individual coaching of educators to ensure high levels of learning in classrooms and continued school improvement.

I have had the privilege of teaching high school biology and algebra online through a number of organizations, including Learn NC, CCS WebAcademy, and the NC Virtual Public School. I have also taught an online class for The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, helping teachers earn an add-on license in gifted education. I have used the Blackboard and Canvas platforms extensively to create course materials, deliver course content, maintain the course website, and maintain student grades.
