About Tuck Leong
I am passionate about student experience and I am interested in understanding how we can help improve learning and teaching, especially at universities. I am also an experienced HCI & Interaction Design researcher who works in User Experience, Experience-Centered Design, Interaction Design, and Participatory Design. I am highly skilled in qualitative research (especially generative research) and in particular, designing and using design probes to better understand people's subjective experiences. I have taught in various universities in Australia, Denmark, and the UK, and have received various awards for teaching excellence.Good digital design and innovation is impactful. It should also be ethical and moral. Thus, my core HCI research interest is ‘people’s experiences with digital technologies’, in particular, those in underserved, marginalised or vulnerable populations. I have substantial research experience with First Nations Australians, people living with dementia, queer youths and ageing adults. This kind of research requires sensitive and participatory approaches; ones that lean towards methods that empower people in the design process, such as co-design, of which I am an expert. I have consulted for various companies and led design teams, in particular to surface innovative and desirable design opportunities through user research. I am the Director of the Apple Foundation Program at RMIT. This strategic and high-impact partnership with Apple, uses a Challenge-Based Learning approach to engage learners in a design process to create a prototype iOS app. Learners get to experience of the processes of working with others to engage with a real-world problem- understand its complexity, explore possible solutions, prototype and iterate a chosen solution, and learn the fundamentals of Apple's XCode to build an iOS mobile app.
Listed skills include Participatory Design, Human Computer Interaction, Ethnography, User Experience, and 14 others.
