I am part of the team that built out the new version of our flagship product (URpages) using a heavily customized build of Bootstrap and our in-house data-oriented Javascript framework.I was able to gain plenty of experience in configuring and deploying Postgres, ElasticSearch, Django, Redis, Apache, Nginx and UWSGI.During the refresh of our platform, I was especially focussed on optimising the speed of our website and was able to tune out 2/3 queries on our hottest pages.Since then, I've been working on infrastructure and SAAS projects as we grow our client base, and expand the reach and features of our products.

During my short contract with UAnywhere I was tasked with User Interface Design for their in-house Customer Relations Manager. I was given 16 hours and free reign of the interface and backend code to implement broad changes to the design of the application, and streamline the navigation to make using the application more intuitive.After streamlining the navigation, and improving a couple of the core views, the client was very happy with the design.

I worked on a mission critical web system for a well known pharmacy chain which integrated both frontend user interface and backend analytics responsibilities.As part of my work I was responsible for implementing:* SMS reminder capabilities using external an SMS gateway webservice.* Modern design practices such as managed schema migrations (South) instead of SQL batch modifications.* Version control was not present when I started the project and I used it to integrate 3 separate versions of the site into a single Mercurial repository, greatly simplifying the process of applying bugfixes across a family of web applications.* Automatic commit-test-deploy systems such that code rollouts could be made with ease and confidence.

I worked with a small group of highly talented engineers who taught me a lot about rigorous testing, not just of software but hardware too.Some of my responsibilities at Tytronics:* Statistical analysis of production defects - writing software to determine rework patterns and acceptable defect rates in electronic gas igniters. (Excel based, but with heavy VB automation)* Implementing embedded firmware for load shedding smart energy meters for roll-out into the Australian market. (Embedded C for Zigbee/MSP430 platforms.)* Wrote Configuration and automated testing software in C#/Python that generated and tested customised ROMs for Smart MetersWe worked closely with ETSA to design and build a prototype system for remote load shedding on the Australian electrical grid. Communication with the customer was essential at every stage of the design process.
