I represent technology companies in complex intellectual property matters, with a particular emphasis on high-technology patent and copyright litigation. I have represented clients in cases related to a variety of technologies, including computer software, semiconductors, wireless communication systems, and digital cable television distribution systems. My experience includes work on matters relating to standard-essential patents (SEP), which must be licensed on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms (FRAND), including patents related to the 3GPP / ETSI standards for UMTS and LTE mobile communications. Representative clients include Synopsys, Kyocera, IBM, Freescale Semiconductor (acquired by NXP Semiconductors), and Texas Instruments.I am a member of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court, the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, and the PTAB Bar Association. I also assist with Jones Day’s pro bono Laredo Project, which serves female victims of gang violence and domestic abuse who have fled Central America to seek asylum under the immigration laws of the United States.
