Tracy Terranova is passionate about bringing diverse learning opportunities to all students using a student-centered approach. Tracy seeks to positively influence education systems through her work at The Met School by guiding school leaders and other stakeholders on the ways to be intentional in supporting youth in building the social capital needed to navigate and succeed in school, work, and beyond. Tracy spent the last 18 years working within the Big Picture Learning model which focuses on a student-centered approach embedded in real-world, mentor-connected project-based learning. During her time at The Met High School in Providence, RI, she worked as a volunteer, data manager, internship coordinator, teacher, principal, and School Leadership Director. After completing her doctoral dissertation which focused on the impact of strong student-teacher relationships on a student’s transformative educational journey, she took a sabbatical from her principal position in Providence to travel to the Caribbean, working at the Big Picture Learning school in Barbados. Through her work as a deputy principal and advisor to the director, she was able to observe how education differs on a larger international scale. Additionally, Tracy serves as a strong trainer and facilitator, developing tools and presenting her work across her home state of Rhode Island, on national platforms via Big Picture Learning conferences, and internationally in Barbados and China. Tracy's work over the years has enabled her to better understand how to interact with staff in coaching situations related to personalized, student-centered learning, how to creatively problem solve, how to create an equitable environment of respect and collaboration, and how building that environment positively impacts the outcomes of students. She believes that a strong school is the product of the right training and the right leadership that is always focused on putting students first.
